Copenhagen Christianshavn & Holmen Neighbourhood Guide
Christianshavn is a bit of enclave in Copenhagen. One part is the ex-hippie neighbourhood that runs by it's own rules, were residents don't pay tax and visitors can buy recreational drugs whilst hanging out in the forest and lakes. Outside this 'alternative' area there are office buildings, green space and industrial areas that are being transformed into restaurants and casual eating spots. It's literally a stone's throw from central Copenhagen, but at the same time feels like it could be 100 miles away. Noma, one of the most well known and expensive restaurants in the world, is a 10 minute walk from sunglassed drug dealers openly selling cheap pot to anyone who wants it. It's a unique place that only exists in Copenhagen. It's not at all intimidating, it's actually quite friendly and any visit to Copenhagen should include a walk around Christiania, even if you don't want to buy any 'grass', buy a beer, find a spot to sit and take it all in.
