Best Bars in Amsterdam

Amsterdam’s bar options are very varied, ranging from old style pubs, to fancy cocktail bars and more than a fair share of overflowing tourist joints. Amsterdam's pubs and bars are made somewhat confusing by the misleading names. Brown Cafes, aren't cafes at all, but rather old pubs that serve local beers on tap and usually a few favourite food items like meatballs and bitterballen. And Coffeeshops aren't coffeshops but the name given to Amsterdam's marijuana cafes where go to get your legal fix of smokable and eatable highs. But beyond that, Amsterdam has a growing collection of newer cocktail bars, not surprising for a country that invented gin, or 'jenever' as it's known in the Netherlands.
