Review: Toa Kitchen

Toa Kitchen

Toa Kitchen is a narrow restaurant on Queensway next to the popular Gold Mine. We’ve been here a couple of times for dim sum and it’s never been very busy. A modern but small space, we were sat only inches away from the next table. The service was what you would expect from a Chinese restaurant - efficient and impersonal. Overall, the dumplings were surprisingly good. Perfectly shaped har gow with delicate prawn filling and small but flavour-packed siu mai filled with chunks of prawn and pork. The only slight letdown was the xiao long bao soup and filling lacked the meaty flavour that a good XLB should have.

Food Score (out of 5) = 3.5
Service Score = 3.0
Environment Score = 3.5
Overall Score = 3.4

Time for food to arrive: 12 mins
Time for tea to arrive: 5 mins
Cost for 3 dishes + 1 tea: £13.00

Verdict: Solid dim sum restaurant and a little quieter than others in the Bayswater area.
