Review: Dumpling Legend

Dumpling Legend

Walking down the main Chinatown stretch, you can’t miss Dumpling Legend. With a name like Dumpling Legend, you’d expect the dim sum to be… well… legendary. We were sat upstairs along with around 20 other people, then waited for someone to serve us.

We waited… and waited…

And waited.

Sick of waiting, I spotted a pile of paper menus for ordering on a side table, grabbed one and started ticking off xiao long bao, siu mai… Finally after about 20 minutes, a waitress appears but as we try to hand her our order, she pushes it back into our face, saying she’s too busy right now. If we weren’t here for research purposes, we would have definitely left by now.

Even after we managed to get our order in, the waiting wasn’t over. Dumplings Legend had the longest waiting time between ordering and the food arriving. And I can tell you that the dim sum definitely wasn’t worth it. The xiao long bao (their specialty) was only average while the ingredients used for the other dumplings were very poor. The siu mai in particular was all fat and gristle, and left a greasy, MSG-heavy taste in my mouth.

Time for food to arrive: 20 mins
Time for tea to arrive: 10 mins
Cost for 3 dishes + 1 tea: £12.20

Food Score (out of 5) = 1.75
Service Score = 1.0
Environment Score = 2.0
Overall Score = 1.6

Verdict: If we were looking for London’s worst dim sum, we may have found it.
